I made a new word

Climatological Hypochondriac - one who sees any variation in micro or macro climate as proof that man is destroying the earth by emitting carbon dioxide.

William Briggs

Thanks to Bill Whittle and one of his latest videos, "The Train Set" (the love of theory is the root of all evil) ... we have a new sidebar blog.

William Briggs.

Go.  Be enlightened.  More.

Democracy in Action

Just saw this on facebook.

Yeah, if we just get enough people who want other people to pay for our stuff to sign, Uncle Sam will go out and actually force other people to pay for our stuff.

How cool is that?

Sad thing is, it was on the wall of a friend.  Who signed it.

We're in big trouble.

The Buffett Rule, Revisited

Not necessarily just because jeffmon brought it up, but...

Here's my Buffett Rule...

"Go fast enough to get there, but slow enough to see.  Moderation seems to be the key."

Going to the Dogs

You know ... as I recall, any time we took dogs in cars the whole time I was growing up, thier preferred position was head out the window, nose in the 55mph breeze, or in the back of a pickup, nose around the corner pointing directly into the wind., and loving every second of it.

And not worrying for a moment about being on the menu tonight.  :-)

People crate dogs all the time to keep them out of mischief and especially for transport.  Seems to me from my experience that if a dog had a choice of being in a crate in a car or being in a crate on top of a car ... the dog would prefer the top of the car.

The Buffett Rule

With apologies to Jimmy.

I could support a Buffett Rule that lowers my tax rate(1) to the level of Warren Buffett's. It's all about fairness, right?

That's not what I really want. The tax code is four times the length of the complete works of Shakespeare. We need to pick a level of spending that is constitutionally justifiable, and write a tax code that fits on one side of an 8-1/2 x 11 sheet of paper, single spaced 12 point type. That level needs to be well below 15% of GNP.

(1) I understand that the rate under discussion is the capital gains rate, and does not include the corporate taxes already paid on the profitability of Buffett's investments.
