Things I Know #32

It's been a while since I've hit upon a "Thing I Know" worth adding to the list. But here it is:

32. If someone says he's "post ideological", that person is undoubtibly a leftist. They're the ones that believe in a single, multicultural culture, that value judgements are "bad", and, of course that since their ideology is "right", it isn't really an ideology.

Yep. Just like anyone who "doesn't believe in labels" is a doctrinaire liberal. There should be a whole new devil's dictionary for these mealy-mouthed equivocations. Might I suggest also "independent," meaning "a sorta-conservativish person who wants to be in political discussions but who doesn't have the gumption to actually get informed about politics. Also, one who likes to smoke pot. A lot."

[That's been my experience of "independents," anyway]

Labels are a conveyance of truth about the product. If you are confident and comfortable with what you stand for why not disclose it. On the other hand, if you are trying to pass off poison as a medicine it becomes obvious why you deplore labels.
