Setting Yourself Up for Failure

I was driving in to work this morning and saw one of those D.A.R.E. program bumperstickers on the back of the van in front of me.  And my mind flashed back to this from about a month ago …  when Oprah “bristled” at Bristol Palin’s promise to herself not to have sex again until she is married… you know, that Bristol was just setting herself up for failure.

Don’t the D.A.R.E. people have kids make a similar promise about drugs and alcohol?

Does Oprah not support that?

And what’s the difference?

Brilliant analogy.

Oprah (and the rest of the liberal entertainment establishment) apparently believe that abstinence (and for that matter, any other kind of self-control) is simply beyond the capability of human beings. Especially if the person has already experienced what it's like to be sexually active.

They themselves couldn't do it, so they project that "can't" onto others, like Bristol Palin. It's a bit like how they refuse to believe that anyone else would give money, time, or energy for purely altruistic reasons. They wouldn't, so why would anyone else? The benefactor MUST have some sinister hidden agenda.

Remember, these are people who believe that human beings are nothing more than evolved animals. So we should not be surprised when they behave like animals, and when they expect more civilized people to do likewise.
